Project Overview

A colour scheme is the choice of colours used in various artistic and design contexts. In this project you will create an ML powered Palette Generator which will match the colours to a given image.

Objectives

  • Create an interactive web app in which an image can be uploaded, and a palette of a specified size can be generated for it
  • Use different algorithms such as median cut algorithm, k-means, or hierarchical clustering, and compare the results
  • The images should then be reconstructed using only the colours from the generated palette. Extra image processing (e.g. dithering) should be applied to achieve more interesting results

Candidate Attributes

  • A passion for the project and, preferably, interdisciplinary data science in general
  • Self-starting attitude with willingness to research and problem-solve independently
  • Ability to work well in a team and clearly communicate your ideas
  • Strong time-management and organisational skills.
  • Familiarity with R programming language is a plus (although you can learn R in parallel with the project)

How to Apply

  • Use the application button on this page to fill in the form where you should attach your CV and any other sources you think are relevant for the role (e.g. GitHub profile for a coding role) as well as answering two further questions in which you should demonstrate your motivation and suitbility for the project.
  • Results to be announced by the end of term 3 (Saturday 3 July 2021)
